My goal as a teacher is to help students learn how to teach themselves. I shape lessons around each student’s goals, whether they are preparing for advanced performance opportunities, growing within their school orchestra, or playing for personal enjoyment. Central to my approach is teaching students how to practice: breaking challenges into manageable steps, listening closely, and understanding the purpose behind their work. Over time, students gain the tools and confidence to guide their own learning and musical decisions.
I believe thoughtful, consistent work matters more than an early impression of talent. I maintain clear expectations while helping students recognize progress and respond constructively to setbacks. Through lessons, ensemble work, and performance, I encourage them to become attentive collaborators and develop their own musical voices. Above all, I want students to trust their ears, approach challenges independently, and experience performance as an opportunity to share something meaningful with others.
